London has a number of top leading universities with high worldwide rankings such as the Imperial College London, LSE, KCL, to name a few.

According to the THES 2008 World University Ranking, four London institutions made it to the World Top 100:

• Imperial - 6th
  
• Univ College London - 7th
  
• King's College London - 22nd
  
• London School of Economics - 66th
  

Imperial is ranked 7th globally in the Newsweek ranking of top 100 global universities. LSE is placed 34th in the league table.

UCL is ranked 6th in Europe and 57th in the world (Webometrics Ranking 2008). It is ranked 22nd in the SJTU World Ranking of Top 100 universities 2008.

The Times Good University Guide 2009 has included three London institutions in the Top 10 list:
